New Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 Sell Out at US Dealers as Production Ends
No new Toyota Supra or BMW Z4 remains on US dealer lots, CarsDirect found. What ended, how few sold in 2025 and what Toyota says about a successor.

Shoppers in the United States can no longer buy a new Toyota Supra or BMW Z4. CarsDirect checked national dealer inventory data on Tuesday and found no new examples of either two-seater left on lots anywhere in the country, Jalopnik reported.
That leaves the used market as the only way to get one. Toyota says a new Supra will come eventually, but after a break, while BMW has said nothing public about another Z4.
Twin sports cars built in Austria
The two cars were closely related. Both came out of the Magna Steyr plant in Austria, a contract manufacturer that builds vehicles for other automakers, and production of both ended this spring. Each brand sent its model off with a Final Edition.
The current Z4, known inside BMW as the G29, went on sale in 2019. It kept the traditional sports car shape with a long hood and short rear deck and came only as a soft-top convertible. The fifth-generation GR Supra followed in 2020. Its BMW roots drew attention from enthusiasts, though it stayed a powerful two-seat car built for driving.
Sales numbers stayed small
Neither model found many buyers. According to Jalopnik, BMW sold 2,113 Z4s in the US in 2025, and Toyota sold 2,953 Supras. At those volumes, the costly platform updates needed to meet changing regulations would have been hard to justify, the outlet noted.
Both automakers are also dealing with a shaky market. BMW cut its outlook for 2026 in June. Toyota, usually the sales leader, just reported a third straight month of falling sales even as it raised its forecast for annual earnings.
What it means for Supra and Z4 shoppers
Anyone set on either car now has to shop for a used one. With the new supply gone and no direct replacement on sale, the existing cars on the road are the whole market for these two nameplates for now.
The gap matters most for Supra fans. The break between the fourth- and fifth-generation Supra lasted 20 years. Cooper Ericksen, senior vice president of product planning and strategy at Toyota Motor North America, told MotorTrend that a successor is planned and that the company aims for a pause that is “significantly less” than the last one. He gave no date.
BMW has not announced a fourth-generation Z4.
Other options from the same brands
Both companies still sell cars aimed at people who like to drive. BMW is launching its Neue Klasse models, including the iX3 electric crossover and a new version of the 3 Series sedan, and it keeps the M2, M3 and M4 in its lineup. Toyota still sells the GR Corolla and GR86, and it has a new Celica in development.
