Chevrolet has raised the starting price of the Trax by $2,000 for the 2027 model year. The facelifted subcompact SUV now starts at $25,495, according to pricing Chevy posted on its consumer website and reported by Car and Driver.

The bigger change for budget shoppers is that the cheapest version is gone. Chevy dropped the base LS trim, so the LT is now the entry model, and the lineup shrinks from five trims to three.

What it means for Trax shoppers

The Trax has been one of the least expensive new SUVs Chevy sells, and much of its appeal came from that low entry price. For 2027, a buyer who wanted the plainest version can no longer get it. The lowest sticker now belongs to the LT, at $25,495.

The two upper trims cost more as well. The RS and Activ share the top of the range and both start at $28,295. For the 2026 model year, those versions started at $27,495, Car and Driver reported. The increase at the top of the lineup is smaller than the one at the bottom, so the gap between the cheapest and most expensive Trax is narrower than before.

Shoppers comparing a leftover 2026 Trax on a dealer lot with the new model will see the difference most clearly at the base level, where the old LS still exists in remaining inventory and the 2027 version does not.

What buyers get for the higher price

The 2027 Trax is a modest facelift. Chevy gave it new headlights and taillights and a revised look, though the overall shape carries over.

Inside, every Trax gets a standard 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster, paired with an 11.3-inch infotainment screen. An instrument cluster is the display behind the steering wheel that shows speed and other driving information.

Most of the additions are safety systems. Chevy updated the SUV’s electrical software, which allowed it to add several driver aids:

  • Automatic reverse braking, which can apply the brakes when the car is backing toward an object
  • Rear cross-traffic braking, for vehicles approaching from the side while reversing
  • Automatic emergency braking for intersections
  • Side bicyclist alert
  • Front park assist
  • Safety seat alert and rear seatbelt indicators

Some of these systems were not previously offered on the Trax, according to Car and Driver, which described them as new safety tech for the model. Chevy has not said whether any of them are limited to certain trims.

A familiar pattern for entry-level models

Cutting the lowest trim is a common way for automakers to raise the real starting price of a vehicle without changing the price of each remaining version as sharply. Chevy kept three trims for 2027: the LT at the bottom and the RS and Activ above it. The company has not given a reason for dropping the LS or for the size of the increase.

The Trax had five trims for 2026. With fewer versions, buyers have fewer ways to trade equipment for a lower price.

When the 2027 Trax arrives

Chevy says the 2027 Trax will reach dealers in the spring of 2027. The company has not announced when customers can start placing orders. Until then, 2026 models remain the only Trax available at the old prices, while dealer stock lasts.
