Nissan is offering a $1,500 trade-in bonus to shoppers who hand over a 2021 or newer Toyota RAV4 when they buy or lease a 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid. The incentive started Nov. 3 and runs through Jan. 4, 2027, according to a dealer bulletin first reported by CarsDirect and covered by Jalopnik.

For RAV4 owners already thinking about a new crossover, the bonus lowers the cost of switching brands, and it can be combined with Nissan’s other current deals.

Who qualifies for the $1,500 bonus

Two conditions apply. The vehicle traded in must be a Toyota RAV4 from model year 2021 or later, and the new vehicle must be a 2027 Rogue Hybrid, either purchased or leased. The offer can be transferred to members of the same household, so the RAV4 does not have to be registered to the person signing for the Rogue.

What it means for buyers’ total cost

Because the bonus stacks with other Nissan offers, the savings can add up for buyers who also use Nissan financing or a lease. Jalopnik lists two current programs:

  • Financing at 4.9% APR for 60 months.
  • A West Coast lease at $439 a month for 36 months, with $4,959 due at signing and a limit of 10,000 miles per year.

Terms for other regions were not disclosed.

Why Nissan is targeting the RAV4

Compact crossovers are one of the biggest parts of the U.S. new car market, second only to full-size pickups. The Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Tesla Model Y and Nissan Rogue all sit in the top 10 best-selling vehicles in the U.S. through the third quarter of this year, with the Rogue in tenth place. Nissan has had well-publicized business troubles, and the Rogue e-Power Hybrid is among its most important new models.

How the Rogue Hybrid works

The 2027 Rogue Hybrid uses a series hybrid system, which means the gas engine never turns the wheels. A turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine runs only to charge a 1.67-kWh battery. Electric motors on the front and rear axles drive the wheels, giving the Rogue all-wheel drive as standard. Jalopnik describes the setup as one that works mostly like an electric vehicle, with the engine acting as a generator. The car never needs to be plugged in, and it reaches 60 mph from a stop in 6.4 seconds.

Fuel economy is rated at 41 mpg city, 36 mpg highway and 38 mpg combined. Jalopnik says that is slightly below the RAV4 hybrid. Its reviewer, Andy Kalmowitz, drove the Rogue Hybrid at a first drive event in Santa Barbara, California, and said he preferred it to the new RAV4 hybrid, calling the Nissan’s cabin more comfortable and upscale.

What happens next

The trade-in bonus is set to end Jan. 4, 2027. Owners of a qualifying RAV4 who want to use it would need to complete a purchase or lease of a 2027 Rogue Hybrid at a Nissan dealer before then.
